Otter,
Sho-Gold and Pro-Gold are both good sinking foods with Pro-Gold being a higher protein, but the Sho-gold works just as good with only 32% protein. Aquadine is good, but a little pricey. Tom L.L. "E.Otter" wrote in message rthlink.net... I am looking for sinking goldfish food that can be bought at a retail store and is designed for everyday feeding. Does anyone know of any brands? I have only been able to find floating goldfish food. Soaking food doesn't work really well. One of my goldfish will devour anything that hits the bottom of the tank, but rarely looks to the surface where the other two do their feeding frenzy. I've had all three fish for 6+ months and feed them at the same time and in the same spot. His tank-mates have learned the routine, but he hasn't. Even when I save food for him when he comes to the surface, he's really eager to eat but the other two will be waiting for more food too and end up eating some of his share. Thanks, E.Otter |

I haven't quite reached my second year of fishkeeping yet, but here's
my two cents: I've had very bad results with Tetra products in general and flakes, specifically, especially lots of floating problems. I switched to the Hikari pellets--they are the mini floating type as I couldn't find the sinking variety, though they can be presoaked so that they will sink. My fish never get floaty anymore, and now I rarely have to serve them peas to "clean them out," whereas before I switched foods I had to serve peas a few times a week! I also feed the SF Bay Fish Gumdrops, which go over very well, though I often wonder if one "gumdrop" for two medium-sized goldfish is too much. Still, my water is stable and the fish seem happy. I purchased both types of food at the evil Petco, but I am sure it's available elsewhere. |

Sinking goldfish food is pretty easy to find. I have different types of
sinking foods that I feed to my fish, which are 2 pearlscales, 1 Ryukin, and 1 black moor. I like to give them a variety of different meals and not just the same old food every day. They are fed twice a day, once in the morning before I go to work, and once in the evening. Here are the names of the sinking goldfish food. I *always* pre-soak the food so that it softens up before I give it to the fish: 1. Wardley Goldfish Crumbles 2. Tetra ColorFin Sinking Granules 3. Tetra Sinking Mini Sticks 4. Hikari Lionhead Sinking Pellets 5. Marineland Labs Bio-Gold Blend Pellets In addition, I received purchased some new food which is currently in the refrigerator. I haven't fed it to my goldfish yet: 1. HBH Sinking Goldfish Nibblets 2. HBH Sinking Goldfish Bites 3. Pretty Pond Goldfish Basic Sinking Pellets They also receive San Francisco Bay Brand Freshwater Multi-Pack frozen food and I feed them chopped up peas a couple times a month. I purchased a can of spirulina, but the pearlscales didn't like it. I do not feed my goldfish any flakes. I plan to order some Sho-Gold food from Goldfish Connection soon. |
