Default Lime water

I have been reading that I can save money by making Kalkwasser from lime I
can buy at a hardware store. I was wondering if anybody was doing this
successfully and if so what brand of lime are they using...or does it
matter?

I just use Mrs. Wages pickling lime I buy from the grocery
store.........
