Default Hair Algae

Does anyone know how to kill Hair Algae without killing all the fauna ? I
had a terrible out break of this stuff and I can
not seem to get rid of it. I have moved the animals to an OT and rebuilt
the old system. The new tank
is as follows:

30gal
Priszm skimmer
2 - 55w PC
new ballast
two power heads
4" of Southdown
30# Live Rock

The tank has been up for about three weeks with no lights. I added the
original rock back after it sat in a dark tub for about
a week with no light. I also scrubbed the rock. I turned on the lights for
two days and the hair algae has
started to regrow. The water parameters are ( using Salifert ):
Water Temp - 80F
NH3 - 0
PH - 8.1-8.2
NO3 - 0
NO4 - 0
K - 0
Silicates - ?

I have a brand new RO/DI unit and all the tests on the water from the unit
are perfect.

There is nothing in the tank but rock and sand. Anyone got any ideas ? My
next step may be to toss the existing rock
and buy new.

Thanks

As far as I know, the only way to "kill it" is to starve it of nutrients and
manually remove it - keep doing that until it's gone. It may take awhile
and it may never be completely gone - ever. You're better off just keeping
it under control by manually removing it during routine maintenance and
keeping the nutrient content as low as possible. I also understand the
using Kalkwasser can also help because it precipitates phosphates. I wonder
what the phospate and nitrate levels are in your tank? You should test
those and post the results.
