Hi,
I have hundreds of baby apple snails in my tank. I wonder, is there a special wy to raise them or can I leave them in the tank? Regards, Jan |

You won't need that kind of setup unless you have a snail-eating fish in the tank along. About the only thing you have to worry about with the snails is food. Pretty much any brand of sinking algae wafer will do the trick. If it's a planted tank, certain species of apple snail will devour every plant you have. Also, keep in mind that apple snails are very messy residents, and as your babies grow they will add to the bio-load of your tank. Make sure you're doing regular water changes and vacuum the gravel thoroughly each time to keep water quality good. -- www.ericschreiber.com |

Regards, Jan I have raised alot of apple snails, You can wait till they get the size of a quarter and then find a pet store for most of them. I keep 6 out of the batches if I'm low. I feed them rinsed canned green beans, 1 green bean per snail when they are adult, just a few in the tank for babies. I feed them spinach also, float a leaf, or clip a leafor canned rinsed. Algae wafers also. I don't feed them these thing every day just 2 to 3 times a week and everyday I put in a pinch of fish flake. snails do good in harder water, thier shells will start to get holes with softer water, so I advoid any drifwood. I have fake drifwood with no sharp ends or edges, they love to climb. Also they love to climb out of the tank, so you ahve to secure it. I have lots of plants but my snails are Pomacea bridgesii. Or as the store calls them mystery snails. or gold inca snails. Kay |
