Default Help with my Beta fish

I just got a Beta fish about 2 weeks ago and he has been doing OK up
until yesterday.
His tongue or what looks like a tongue,or some big black thing comes
out and it get really huge than goes back in, then he races really
fast round and round his little 1 gallon tank.
Would anyone know if this is normal or is there something really wrong
with my Beta, is he going to die?

Thanks,
Dianna

This is completely normal, this is called "flaring." It just means that he
sees his reflection in the side of the tank. He thinks it's another betta,
and he wants to show it who's boss. Don't worry, it's completely normal.

Can you put a Beta in with a large tank full of goldfish?
Do they need a small space to live?

Yes and no.

While there is some religious arguement about betta in small vs large
tanks it doesn't seem to make a difference to my bettas. They are
currently in 6, 10, and 30 gallons respectively.

Now, that being said. I would not put a betta in with goldfish. They are
much dirtier than the betta. If you've got commons or comets, they'll
move much faster than the betta... Just not a happy combination...

bettas are tropical fish, meaning they need warmer water temperatures.
goldfish need cold water so you cant put them together.
bettas need atleast a gallon of water, anything less and you will becleaning
it more often wich is stressful on the fish so with a gallon you just have
to clean it once a week and anything bigger you have to clean it less.
bettas also dont like alot of current. www.bettatalk.com is a good site
about bettas.
