Fish Care

Hi folks just set up my tanks has 2 black more and 2 fantail using an
under gravel filter with air stone device

Have all my water treatments and my water test kit just wondering about
plants should I or perhaps not for just 4 fish Vikki

All personal preference if you have them or not. I tend to keep
live plants, but have to replace quite often.

Ok but wondered if live plants also bring more life to the tank and help
amuse and interest my fishes

Do you know I asked the woman who served me about a tank cover she said oh
do you have a cat
I busted if she only knew our cat she would know the lazy thing is no threat
to my fish

I think the fish find it entertaining pulling on the plants. They can
also use the plants to hide behind when they are edgy.

I would be hesitant about planting a tank with with a UGF (Under ground
filter). From what I understand, most plants do not do well with a UGF...

Many plants do not do well with UGF's because people do not put enough
gravel on top of the filter plates. And UGF should have 1 1/2 inch to 2
inches of gravel on top of the plates, and RUGF need about 3 inches. Most
people do not want to put that much gravel in their tanks.

1 1/2 inch? When I first started fish keeping about 1 1/2 years ago,
I had a UGF. I had about 3" of gravel. Needless to say, it got very
smelly.

Then, under advice, I removed 2's of gravel, and it worked better.

Then under ingrid's advice, I removed the UGF, Binned the tank, bought
a 10g & filter. Things work very nicely.

I'm a filter convert. UGF's just don't seem to cut it in my tanks,
and I'm sure it was responsible for the death of my black moor.
