VHO Bulbs don't fire, what could be wrong? by
MAG
Hi folks-
Some of you may remember me from about two weeks ago; I had problems
with my MH bulbs popping the GFCI outlet on turn-on. That's all sorted
out. It turns out that replacing the GFCI outlet solved the problem.
Now I've got a different problem, that I noticed when I was working on
the MH...

D/I cart by
Billy
I have a 100gpd RO\DI unit (purchased from Marc) and less than 2
months ago I replaced the cartridges. The previous set lasted nearly
six months, and my usage has not increased very much in that time.
However, the DI unit is already fully discolored, indicating
exaustion. What could be causing the...

Using Silicone Spray to beat Algae by
Quatermass
I've heard that if I purchase a bottle of quick drying Silicone Spray
it will make the object I coat it with impossible to be coated with
Algae in a tropical Aquarium.
Has anyone tried this before?

Metal halide lights trip GFCI all of a sudden by
MAG
Hi folks-
I've got an established tank with (among other things) a pair of metal
halide lights in a Hamilton hood. Nothing has changed with the setup in
more than 5 years.
Everything electrical for the tank is on a GFCI (ground fault circuit
interrupter) circuit. The metal halide lights are on a...

Good online source for MH ballast capacitor? by
MAG
Hi folks-
In response to some feedback in a thread about my MH lighting system
repeatedly blowing the GFCI protector, I'm now thinking the capacitors
on the transformers are the likely culprit. Long story, but it's my best
theory so far and I'm wanting to change them out.
They are Magnetek...

eheim filters - quiet? effective? by
crav2300
I am currently using an internal filter for my 55 gallon planted tank. Currently, I am using an internal filter for its quietness. However, the internal filter practically does nothing to cleaning the tank water other than move it around. Now, I want to get a new external canister filter.
I am...

It's 31 degrees centigrade in my dining room where I keep my planted

canister likely to "unload" its contents? According to the pressure

UPS and heater(s) by
Bill Stock
I had another power outage last weekend (4+ hours), so I finally broke down
and bought a couple of refurbed UPSs. They should last a while as they are
36 amp hours each. The Goldfish tank only uses 24 watts (2 Fluval 304s), as
I won't connect the heater or lights. But I was wondering about the...

DIY trickle filter by
spiral_72
I'm researching/designing my own wet/dry trickle filter. There seems to
be an abundance of info on the net but one thing still baffles me. How
is everyone getting a $15 powerhead to lift water from the filter back
into the top of the tank? I have tried several methods with the 300gph
powerhead I...

Coke bottle fluidised bed. by
Ian Stirling
Take 2 2l coke bottles, 30cm of 22mm plastic overflow pipe.
Consume contents, remove label (fill with water at 60C, wash glue residue
with white spirit), and wash. (I assume your 2l coke bottles are like mine,
smooth outside, with one reinforcing ring round the top)
Hacksaw off the top of one,...

Fluval issues by
Lobsang Mack
I have a Fluval 404 and it is to the point where I am afraid to touch it.
Everytime I break it down for maintenance it is a bugger to restart.....My

I replaced the primer unti and when I try to prime it it still sounds like
it is sucking air. The impeller is...

Quiet Air Pumps by
Martin Browell
Can anyone tell me which is the quietest air pump?
Roughly, if anyone can quantify it in words, how much noise should and air
pump make. I'm convinced the one I got when I bought a second hand tank is
ancient and noisy.
Any help would be appreciated.
