I have--- lily pads, Iris, Water lettuce, hyacinth, parrot feather If you've built you pond where the depth is below the frost line, you can just cut off any remaining leaves at the end of the season and place the pot containing the lilly in the bottom of the pond. Just don't let it freeze. You may be able to take the iris and place it in the house in a cool, dark place (like a basement) to keep the bulb from re-sprouting. Next spring just set up those plants like you had them this year. I am not sure about the others since I don't have those. |

I have--- lily pads, Iris, Water lettuce, hyacinth, parrot feather I live in Ellicott City, near Baltimore. For the winter, I sink my lotus, lily, cattails, pickeral rush, etc. to the bottom of the pond and let them overwinter there. I have tried to sink WH, but I did not have any succeed last year. They are fairly cheap as are lettuce, and we have enough Southern Porgs here, that I can usually get all the WH I need by the time I need it. My pond is about 40-42 inches deep. BV. |

This spring they were the first plant to return, and have grown like crazy. BV. |

I think I am going to begin looking a a very small used aquarium to keep the tropicals in over the winter for the house though. Even though everything made it in the house last winter it didn't do as well as I would have liked. In part due to the fact that I would often forget to water them enough to keep them continually moist... Janet in cloudy, humid Niagara Falls |

We live in Idaho, so we have cold winters with snow. We have always cut our
plants back and placed them on the bottom, and for 2 years they have came back. We cut the lilies back also. As far as the water lettuce, hyancinth and parrot feather, you might as well toss them and get new in the spring. We have a friend that tried to keep hyancith in her garage in a bucket, but it didn't work. We also put a trough heater in our pond to keep it from freezing completley over.
